Nepal Like No Other Country
NO other snowy peaks stand
Like Sagarmatha in enormity,
Where radiant rhododrendon blossom
In dull, dreary rocks.
In grandeur and gracefulness
Unparalled my country remains .
No other human race I dare
Can compare in comeliness
Like the likeable Nepalese.
Witnessing the cool spreading shadows
Of umbrageous banyan trees
In Singapore;
A glimpse of marvellous Malaysia
Merely makes you nostalgic
Reviving reminiscent views
Of your vibrant valleys.
Touching the sublime shores
Of New Zealand you witness
The lively Dudhkosi glide;
And watch colourful Babari petals
Strewn on fragrant Australian beach.
Entering the foyer where
Reverberate disco-dance and music,
That I belong to Rodhighar
A fact I never forget.
Rock ‘n Pop I listen for sure,
But Sarangi I love no less.
Carol songs of Deosi-Bhailo,
I sing on alien lands,
And easily bulldoze English
With my own native speech.
In the parched arid desert
Over the gulf of the Arabian Sea
My mind hovers and hunts
And pines for the canopy
Of green luminescent trees.
Wherever I amble about
Be it a garden or a field all around
I observe raspberry bushes
And play hide and seek
With beautiful bride of night.
Let Kanchanjunga crown of glory
Bedeck Nepal with diadems,
And hark Nepal chant
In sonority of twilight whistle.
And wherever I go
I hear the cascading waterfall
Sing animated songs
And deep in my heart
The love of Nepal unfolds.
Like the unsullied water pure
Of Fewa, Rara, Foksund or Tillicho
Nepali does relish peace ‘n harmony;
And plant the rich inheritance
Of Nepal everywhere if
I may have to,
And engrave Buddha,
Only Buddha on balcony
All over.
Merely a crispy piece of paper
Dollar I throw into the river
Every ounce of energy I crave
To serve my country dear.
When bullets pierce their hearts
Nobody but a Gorkha knows,
How many souls departed.
On us sooner sense should dawn
What violence massacre mean.
Tormented I am when
My countrymen grievously hurt
And violently commotioned I am
When honour and glory
Of Nepal debased.
I bask in the warm susnshine
Of love intense for my country
All through the wintry weather
In strange inhospitable lands;
And carry the silvery Annapurna
On my forehead as witness
And harbinger of my great destiny.
In the midst of shrewd people
A simpleton I turned out to be
And carry a chunk
Of my glorious holy land
In my clenched hand,
Sprinkle the soil on my hair parted
Or paint the canvas all over
With variegated colours
Of my country dear
If I may have to depart.
Half of my cherished life
On foreign land spent
But deep in my hearts
I steadfastly crouched.
Is love ardent
For my Nepal always .
Waves violent from Marsyangdi
Rise in my bosom deep,
Apprehension of my body
Lying beneath in heaps,
Of unfriendly foreign soil
Dreadfully looms large.
Sangrilla thou art
Of universe unbounded
Sangrilla thou art
Of universe unbounded,
Goldmine you are
Of perpetual water source;
Apple of my eye ‘n epitome
Of abundance.
Adorn my eyes I’ll
With images enchanting of Nepal
And marshal delectable sights all
Of mighty Himalayas
Flowing majestically within.
Let my mortal remains
Be cleansed
And the last lamp kindled
On my lips in Nepal.
Let the glow of Nepal mirrored
On my face
And die with Nepal
Pulsating in my heart.
Daughter Sandhya of Nepal
Reveal to the world
Breathed her last;
Dig me a grave sacred
In the soil sacred of Nepal.
Of Nepal I’m the zealous lover;
Pine for progress large
And long to be born again
As Nepali no less
No other snowy peaks stand
Like Sagarmatha n enormity
Where rhododrendon blossom
In dull dreary rocks
